#5655 - 04/26/0211:55 AMRe: My car tastes are so whacked--
My first car was a 1964 VW Beetle with a sunroof and racing stripes. I thought it was a Porsche, well I drove it like a bat out of hell. Then I had two Volvo 142 models, an Opel Kadett Rallye, a Mercury Capri, Ford Maverick. Also had the pleasure of my wife's Fiat 850 Spider, that was a bad car! Also had a Triumph Spitfire, can't recall the model year. It was a piece of crap too. I think those are all the cars I can think of. Here's a picture of that Pontiac Solstice, kind of interesting.

Edited by mikeb_X on 04/26/02 08:01 AM (server time).

VW owns several exotic car companies now. Bugatti is one and I think they also own Bentley now, there are a few others I can't think of right now. They also have a new V12 model called the Phaeteon (aka D1) being built in Dresden in their new all glass factory, state of the art. Will compete with Mercedes and BMW top end models. Costs up to $90,000 or so. A far cry from my 1964 VW Beetle. Way to go VW! I wish VW would produce a nice little sports car, a modern day version of the Karmann Ghia like the way they updated the Beetle. That could be interesting.

Edited by mikeb_X on 04/26/02 08:16 AM (server time).

Friend of mine had a dental supply business called Safari Dental Supply. So he had a VW Squareback like yours and had it painted with Zebra stripes. The car was stolen and used in a bank robbery. OK, so they weren't the brightest bank robbers! LOL.

i have owned many a car including a jaguar xj6. (beautiful and....ah, beautiful)...it obviously wasn't the car for me because it was the only car i owned and failed to have a girlfriend. ;-)

of all of my cars, my favorite has been a 197x VX Bug convertible. loved it, loved it, loved it. best car ever. i miss it. i sold it because i was scared it was going to need a new roof and i didn't want to pay for it. i made more profit on that car than anything else i have ever owned. dang it. i want it back.

i am now thinking my next car will either be a very nice car or a classic oldie (e.g., kharman ghia, vw bus, etc.). i am about a year away from making the decision. hmmm.

[color:blue] -sean
Yes - a Kharman Ghia! - especially if you could find a decent ragtop. I'll bet nice ones are fetching a pretty penny.

Nothing like the unmistakable sound of a V-dub. And one of the easiest engines to service. I recall being able to pull the entire engine out in about half an hour! Made tune-ups a breeze.

[color:red]Alec
