Yes, Lea was in virtual hell yesterday. Long story short, I accidentally trashed a project folder that I've been working on for months now. Must have happened Sunday or Monday. Backed up? Yeah, all but the PhotoShop files. Quark won't print without 'em, as we all know. Reconstructing this work would have been the most depressing thing I've ever done with my Mac. The PS files were scans of huge field maps that I had to stitch together. And it would've put me so far behind schedule, this client would probably hunt me down and put a stake through my heart.

I've got TTP 3 installed, and I enabled TechTool Protection from the get go. I'm thinking that when I trash a file, it actually slips into a Trash Cache. I'm really not sure how it works, but I fired up TTP Data Recovery and with sweaty palms and a racing heart beat, I was able to pull all 16 files back to the Desktop.

I've never had to use this feature before, and I was floored at how well it worked. Thought I'd pass this experience along. Anybody had a similar situation? BTW I quit using NUM 3 years ago. Too many horror stories. I've always been real happy with TTP. As of yesterday, I'd give it the App of the Century award.

[color:blue]A little nonsense now and then is relished by the wisest men. – W. Wonka

Gawd Lea. Ah fee-yuhl yoah pay-een. Have done that once in the past and did have to recreate art. Not nearly as complex as what you described, but just that urge to hit yourself in the head with an axe is the pitts. Glad you were smart enough to cover yourself.

Lea,

That really sucks, bad... believe it or not, I do weekly backups of my entire documents folders at work and at home to secondary machines... it's a manual process, and not terribly tidy, but it gets the job done...

I've lost too many hard drives to want to worry about it...

TTP can do some amazing things. I've recovered files from the Trash Cache at times. If you have Protection "on," I believe you can recover an entire volume with it (though I've never had to do that - I backup with Retrospect Express).

I used to depend on TTP's trash cache a lot back in OS 9 days. It saved my Bacon (literally--an essay I was writing on Sir Francis) once, and I'm eternally grateful. Now, if they could only make Drive 10 something other than eye candy!

And that's true too.--Shakespeare, King Lear

well I found that using the trash cache option just was too much to manage with my smallish system parition, 449Mb.

I run TT Pro with all extensions off.

I use DataRescue for any of the above problems.

Great story and congratulations. I am a big fan of TTP and DiskWarrior. I won't go near Norton.

Drive10 by Micromat's own admission is merely an interim product. TTP for OS X will arrive in one form or another, but it will be a long time in coming.

-------------------------------------------
RWoelk
Generating 2048 bits of randomness...

Only the educated are free! -Epictetus
