I still have a 17" 800 MHz lamp shade G4 iMac, hacked to run Leopard. It's such a beautiful design I just can't part with it. If only I could use USB 2 on it!

Those were not Flat Panel, as the quote suggest. Anyway to me the first all in one, was the anniversary Mac, which was a flat panel.
Yes, you mentioned that. But the article was titled "Evolution of iMac." That's why we wondered why they only included the flat panel and did not mention the gumdrop.
Although the 20th Anniversary Mac was an AIO it wasn't an iMac, which is what the article was about.
