I'm very curious to see how the iPad 2 shakes out with the Moto XOOM. I know, many have released tidbits before the iPad 2 was released Friday but many were just guesses.
Well here's one tidbit I found (post release) and it looks GOOD !!
it beats the XOOM on video (fps) - read game play - quite handily !!

Yep.
Well my thoughts.
1 - Xoom - hardly to believe from Motorola. On a scale from 1 to 10 - Moto is a 10.5 - Ipad is a 10.5 and a 1/4.
Not much at all - in fact kinda really embarrassing coming from Apple.
IMO. Apple dual A5, should have kicked arse - just as it is in this review, only half better than the Xooms procs. I mean only better gaming with slightly better browser speeds <-- what about everything else, that the Xoom is faster on ? ?
Resolution, they both are dogs. What happen to the retina display ?
IOS -vs- Android = hedged pod of features. Seems Android wins, in this review.
Not sure why Apple built in such crappy cameras ? ? iPhone 4 beats those even.
Not sure why Apple went with a proprietary ((FaceTime)) even I cannot use. Xoom works across all platforms, even iPad. Sure both have crappy video but thats because of Apple shiity cameras- Xoom wins also on that one.
I think for some of the other features the Jury is still out... such as overall speed. According to John it's pretty snappy.
Cameras... no one buys them for the cameras. They're "add-ons"...handy if you need it on the fly but if you're planning photography, you're not using a iPad or iPhone !
Yeah I'd like retina display but the backlighting does inprove it considerably... wait for iPad 3.
MORE Tidbits - The guy at my Apple store (yes I bought it) ... said the iPads were all gone in 1 hr and 20 min Friday. Best Buys got about 15-20 which he said might last 5 min with slow sales staff !

Doesn't the Xoom have dual core processors too? Yup, just googled it: A 2GHz dual-core processor

Ok, you lost me here. What is "really embarrassing"?

I would hardly say they are dogs. Not at all. I find the display on the iPad to be great! And I'm not saying that because I just bought one. Seriously, to call them "dogs" just means that I'm not really sure you know what you are talking about.
An IPS display with LED backlighting, it’s still among the best on current tablets

Which review? The one I linked in this reply? Because the one under discussion by David was just about the processors.
The one I linked said in summary:
Quote:
Challengers fell short of its battery life, couldn’t match its pricing, struggled with usability and floundered in the absence of a well-stocked App Store and huge developer support.

What David said. It's way too bulky to take any high resolution pictures. I can't see hauling this thing around on vacation and taking pictures with it. I would rather do that with the iPhone IF I had no other camera. I'm not about to rely on mobile phones for any pictures that I want to frame.

I love facetime, I got to video chat with Waleed for free! And if you don't know why Apple goes with proprietary anything, then I'm taking your apple sticker away!

Sorry I should have included the link to the review I read. Which was a head to toe comparison to the Xoom. Not sure if it was a PC rag or what it was?
Bottom line the iPad2 barely won out. <-- thats where the embarrassing comment comes from.

The iPad screen is only slightly better than the Xoom - slightly

Thats a no brainer - but come on Apple installed a 1 mega pix camera, should at lease be a 3 pix, that would be decent for its intended use.
Why can't you use it?
I don't have Snow - With the Xoom their version of FaceTime (Google) is universal across all platforms even Macs.
Hardware is so much less important than software on tablets. Other than FaceTime I can't even think of a single time where a camera would have been useful to me. Apple builds their hardware around the needs of their software features ...the competition builds their hardware to look good on spec sheets.

I wonder if the Xoom will become the Xume
Nah. Xoom will only appeal to the Apple haters, I mean there are people who will spend more, just to spite Apple. So they will sell, just not great enough to catch the iPad.
Now if Moto can drop the price of the Xoom, then it would have a better long run chance of catching up?
John. I think you missed my points - that Apple could have done a little better, with the iPad2 - I was NOT trying to sell a Xoom here, nor would I buy one at any price
