I see the new Apple TV has an HDMI output - so is it possible to just plug it into a large monitor (instead of a TV, which I won't own)? I like the idea of using airplay to stream films from my iMac to e.g. a 30" monitor and the stereo in my living room, and I don't want a TV in the house (I've 'managed' without one for 18 years now!)

Case in point... my Sony HDTV. When I bought it I could have saved quite a bit of money by getting the monitor version. Since everyone uses a cable box these days.. a tuner is typically redundant. BUT.... the tv manufacturers know this.. and therefore put some other "high end" features only on the tuner version, enticing you to buy the costlier version. You can buy the monitor version... knowing that if you were to ever subscribe to a service.. they would provide a tuner box for you.
I actually just meant a computer screen that's got an HDMI input, like the Apple Cinema Display - not a tunerless TV monitor. will that still work with the Apple TV?
