Where was this when I lived there? Man, I would've killed for that. From early '98 to the summer of '99 I lived at 10th & PPW, and during '04 at Prospect Ave & PPW. I had to dodge opening car doors on the street, or yuppie mommies with their double-wide strollers, and suicidal roller-bladers on the sidewalk.
Too bad Sadik-Kahn is taking so much flak for this. I mean, how fast do people want to drive on that street — at $3.75/gallon no less?

Just seeing this... sorry for the delay
HA! I got into an argument with a lady about this today. This is absolutely the most idiotic thing I've ever seen a bunch of old Prospect Park livin', fancy car drivin', doorman havin' old coots get into an uproar over. I really don't get it.
Their main complaint? "It makes it harrrddd to cross the streeeeet!.. you have to look BOTH ways!!" and "the cyclists are scaarrryy!" You have millions of dollars! Get a farking hovercraft!
That said, I haven't yet had the opportunity to ride that particular lane. I've walked along the HUGE sidewalk there a few times this winter, and it looked pretty legit to me.
