Mr B... If your stereo has an auxiliary input.. you can jack into that and hear phone calls through you stereo. You can also use the ear buds that came with the phone... or you could buy a nice set of headphones. The headphones will require an adapter plug.

But, if you have speakers via stereo plugged into the headphone jack, how can he talk to the person?
I have experienced this first hand...had my iPhone plugged up to the input jack on my car listening to music. Phone rings, I hear it through the speaker, but when I answer it, they can't hear me because there is no mic input. (the headphone jack overrides the mic on the iphone)
