Has anyone come across a way to swithc off the home screen animation in iOS4? It's slow on a 3G, pointless fluff, and drives me nuts.

When I go to the home screen, from an app or when unlocking from the lock screen, the icons/folders all swoop in from the corners. Slowly. Maybe it happens so fast on your phone that you've never noticed it smile.

Erm, it's been like this ever since iOS4.

Is that your jailbroken phone? Are you on 4.2.1?

From a quick googling it seems a lot of people have experienced slow downs on jail broken G3 phones with iOS4.

Seems the multitasking is killer for one.

I'm jailbroken with 4.2.1, yes (which is a little snappier than 4.1). Everything works fine and I'm generally resigned to the slowness of 'old' tech with little ram in this context. It's just that after finding an app that immensely speeded up opening my folders by switching off the animation, I'd really like to find a similar way to switch off the home screen animation too, which is completely superfluous to my needs. So far no joy, but I'm asking around with jb devs to see if someone wants to crack this one too.

Multitasking has become patchier to use in 4.2.1 for jailbroken 3G's, at least - but then there's only really room for 3-4 apps running at once anyhow smile.

Still hunting around - there may be a "defaults write" command for this, I just haven't found (or found anyone who's found) it yet smile.

I'm assuming you have been on sites that discuss this more in depth?

That's where I would suspect you would get an answer quicker.
