So I updated to 4.2.1 yesterday and now there are no songs on my iPhone.

I can always load it up again, but I thought that it was strange that it took all of my music off of the iPhone without asking.

I read this on one of the "other" forums.

"The way to fix it is apparently to plug your iPhone back into your computer, play a song from the iPhone on your computer, and then sync," Siegler reports. "The process is very quick because it doesn’t actually have to transfer all that music again, it just makes it recognize that it’s already there."

Hope it helps.

This happened to me too, but I didn't realise until I was on the train at the start of a 6 day journey, dammit - and without my mac, I can't jog my iPhone's memory so no music until I get home frown.

Bummer.
I know that software isn't prefect, but Apple had more than enough time to get it right.
"It just works" crazy
Never heard back from John to see if he fixed his problem…

Oops, sorry. Yeah, got them back by hooking up iPhone to iMac and re-syncing

Yes, mine are back too now. But I was reduced to reading iBooks on my train journey!
