The ability to print from iPhones would benefit me many times a day. At the shop where I work, people are always coming in wanting to print some thing or another that they've got in an email on their iPhone. As it is, the staff often have to get this person to email it to the store and print it for them. It's a real pain.
Unfortunately, it looks like the printer we have for them to use (HP 4015dn)likely won't be supported. I'll have to see if there's a way around this. Surely you could print to a printer that's being shared by an OS X computer, eh?
What is better than FaceTime? My understanding is that the others are streamed across 3G and it is all stuttery. As opposed to FT which uses your full wifi bandwidth,

Trey, go look around macstories.net. There are two or three different ways you can get shared printers to appear in AirPrint. One is a commercial solution for $9.99 (with trial) and the other is an app that puts beta files back in that were taken out before release (hacktivator) ...we tried the hactivator at work today and it worked just fine with our old HPLaserjet.
I really think they will release AirPrint for shared printers after they get all the kinks worked out. I figure there Just took it out to make the Nov ship date.
A lot of people are looking at activating AirPrint on the new Snow Leopard 10.6.5… but it requires a tedious terminal session.
So I followed a link from a tuaw.com post to the 3 files required and wrote a small wrapper around them to make the installation easier. The application is called AirPrintHacktivator and can be downloaded on this page. The application allow you to “Hacktivate” and “De Hacktivate” AirPrint by adding or removing the 3 files required… all of this while making a backup of the current files so they are properly restored during “De Hacktivation”.
What you need?
* An iPhone or iPad with 4.2GM * A Mac with Snow Leopard 10.6.5 installed * iTunes 10.1+ installed * AirPrintHacktivator
The application will attempt to detect if you have the right combination of OS and iTunes.
WARNING! USE AT YOUR OWN RISK! It is working fine for me but don’t come crying if it break something on your Mac… mmmkay!

Just bought an HP Envy 100 today. Just so happened to find out the wife was asking for a printer for Xmas from her mother so I quickly made sure it was one that was AirPrint compatible. I've also been wanting to update my old HP scanner so we decided to kill two birds with one stone.

I just watch some TV commercials , EVO I think on 4G network touts face to face video, without the need for wifi- sorta a slam to Apple.

Speaking about HP - printers.
I got an email yesterday about a class action law suit against HP.
1 - HP misrepresented its ink to paper usage. 2 - HP ink out indicator, makes you buy ink when you still have maybe 40 prints left. 3 - Print manager uses color ink to print Black - even if you have black ink chosen.

Love ya , Kate
I believe the email said there is no monetary settlements. ? ? Seemed like that HP will send you a (pant load) of the same screwed to fucck you over ink cartridges.
Sure I could use some free ink cartridges - I just deleted the email instead. Won't buy HP again.

LOL <-- Big time
I gave up on color printers. If I want a color picture I'll go down to the drug store or wherever. I now have a Samsung lazer printer [$99]. B&W is good enough for me. The color carts kept drying out on me cause I didn't use it enough, I guess.
Well I'll sell my truckload of carts on a street corner and go out to dinner.

Same here, Kate - I realised I didn't need the übertech of colour printing so I got a mono LED printer (OKI make them) which is quite a lot cheaper to run than a laser printer, pretty much as good print quality, and doesn't give off ozone as a printing by-product. Plus it does duplex, which saves a lot of paper!
I used to think I couldn't live without the option to print in colour, but now I barely ever need it. If I want to make cards for people, I go with the arty b&w look .

Right, Paddy. I'm a happy camper too. Last time I went to buy 6 color cartridges for a printer and discovered it would be cheaper to buy a new printer! I said enough.

I bough one color inkjet about 10 years ago, rarely used it, never bought ink, never bought another. The 15 ? year old HP 5MP B&W laser is still cranking though.
