My JBL speakers just went the way of soap bubbles. The subwoofer appears to have died, or at least it's making dgadgadgadgadgadga sounds if it's unplugged from the mac and no sounds if it isn't. No longer under warranty, not worth the cost of getting mended, sigh.
Any recommendation for a replacement 2.1 speaker system? Harman Kardon Soundsticks would be nice but I can't afford them at the moment...

I have something very similar, very good, separate volume, treble and bass knobs which I like. Had the system for about 5 years I think? Bought it from CompUSA, 59 bucks I think.
This link also has some from 29 bucks, check em out.

Of course, you know to check the frequency response, etc. I have the JBL 2.1 (Creature II) set here that sounds pretty good, but I'd prefer some standard studio monitors for their warmth.
