my mba is 3 years old and I think it is time to upgrade. I think my computer is going to break tonight and need an emergency replacement tomorrow. (Not fibbing, the motherboard keeps forgetting it has an airport card and lost the speakers months ago.)
New iLife 11 with new iPhoto iMovie and Garage Band 11. This one does go to eleven.
Maybe that manilla envelope case isn't the best way to travel? Or did you find it doesn't bounce very well. You'd think they would last more than 2 years or so.
I beat the craap out of it. Fell out of the back of a car then a month or so later I snapped the screen clean off. Apple would have replaced it but they saw the big dents from the car drop. If I hadn't been leaving town for a meeting in two days I could have paid an extra 100 and they would have replaced everything on the computer that was dodgy. Should have borrowed someone else's computer and done that deal.
I'll still use an interoffice envelope or go commando. What's the point of getting something small then getting all sorts of stuff to bulk it up?
i have to wait until next summer for my update of my current Macbook, but i'll be going with the 13" MBA. i don't even know if my MacBook DVD player even works as i've never used it. no use paying extra to get that. and, the MBA looks gorgeous.

Blah...hate to be a party pooper here, but I got kind of bored with the iLife stuff, not spending 49 bucks or euros for it...okay, so the new up and coming promised and demoed features on Lion were impressive.
Also, while impressive engineering and squeezing it into a small space, the new MBAir is for presentations and hipsters. :P Won't run much heavier stuff than Office/iWork/browser with that processor.
I know you'll be stoked, poly, and you're not a hipster. But you'll put it to the kind of professional use it was intended for.
1,200 bucks with 128 GB FLASH drive? I hope I can pick one up tomorrow.
Includes a flash thumb drive which will reinstall the operating system. That's a nice touch. I wonder if I could use it to reinstall the OS on this old MBA. The disconnects of the sound and airport may be just software related.
I can't see going away from the mbp. need the connectors and the internal optical drive. I use a foam zippered sleeve that Harry gave me - not bulky at all.

i am not sure i'd go with a MBA if it was my only computer (i'd have to get a MBP 17" perhaps for that). but day to day big work is still done on my Mac Pro 2.8GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon that i expect to last for a bunch more years. i just want something portable to fiddle with while watching television or traveling or when i go into the office 1 day a week. as long as i can hook it to a projector for presentations then it'll suit my needs just swell.

iPad with a hinge is what I think it sounds like too. Just easier to take to the coffee shop and catch up on internet reading. My iPhone window is so small
Is the MBA processor as fast as the iPad's?

I am glad to see that someone else is as bad as I am.
The flash storage will make the mba super speedy. I've got a 180GB SSD in my Mac Pro. Love it! But I also have another 4TB of storage. I'd miss that in the mba. .

I am hoping the 128 SSD makes it speedier since the cpu doesn't seem to have sped up. I've had the MBA for three years and I haven't filled it up yet because it is never the repository. (Just checked and my 80 GB still has 15 GB left without trying to delete stuff.) The MBA visits my lab all the time which has somewhere in the neighborhood of 50 TB of space double live backed up and also tape backed up so I never really keep anything local. Important live stuff I am working on I mail to myself every day and large projects stay on servers.
With cloud computing in our future this should be the way you all will do it. Why have 4 TB in your house. Your house could burn down. The Amazon cloud prices are dirt cheap. Unfortunately they aren't that great for what we do. Transferring up several TB over months in little bits is fine. Loading even a few GB of genome up takes too long.
. The best thing about my SSD is the boot time and the speed at which applications open up. Apple says the MBA SSD will boot the notebook in less than 15 seconds.
"Why have 4 TB in your house. Your house could burn down."
My computer is my pride and joy. If my house burns down, I'm going with it.
I admit I don't understand Cloud Computing. I looked at: Amazon S3 Amazon EC2 Amazon VPC Amazon CloudWatch Elastic Load Balancing Elastic Block Store Amazon CloudFront Amazon Elastic MapReduce Amazon Relational Database Service Amazon Simple Notification Service
I must be getting old because I really don't understand that stuff either. But I don't really want to pay Amazon for storing my data. .

i am giving a TEDx speech next week and talking about going paperless. but i'll be pushing cloud based storage as well instead of filing cabinets. i am really trying to dumb it down to make sure i am not too geeky sounding. ;~)
