My daughter is running WOW on an iMac core 2 duo with 4 gigs of ram. After doing the latest game update, she is getting a frame rate of 13 with the graphics turned down. Has she about reached the end of the line with that set up or would adding more memory help. The machine is at least 2 years old and I forgot to ask what video card she has.

More RAM probably would not help all that much. It's mostly the capabilities of the video card/processor.

Is that the only thing she has running? No web browser, nothing?

Looks like there's an FPS issue with 4.0.1 on many mac setups ... try turning down liquid and sunshaft effects to their lowest settings and see if that helps any ...

Also, here is a post with suggested settings for various Mac models, although it hasn't been updated yet for 4.0.1 -- hopefully there's something in there that may help =)

The only game was the only thing she had running. She could not find the option for Full Screen Glo. The video card is a GForce 9400.

She had those settings turned down to low already. I sent her the link you provided. She did say the latency was 101.

Most games have different resolution settings.. hopefully she can choose something lower?
I play CoD4 and can choose between several that look anywhere from super! to good enough.

Everything is as low as it can go, I can at least move around now. I did find a thread that talks about editing the wtf file.

I will have to do more research on that, I try to stay out of those files. Hoping I can find some more specific information on that. Other users have said that once they get out of the cities FPS goes up so I'm going to give it a shot tonight. Blizzard obviously doesn't put enough Mac users in their beta testing. >.<

You can go ahead and monkey with the .wtf file -- just make a copy of the one you have now first and save it someplace ... if something goes wonky with the one you're playing with, just replace it with the original ;-) (or, you can just get rid of it altogether -- the game will generate a new one with default settings the next time you start the game ... )

I have heard horror stories about trying to move around Dalaran and having frame rates drop precipitously -- the fact that everyone and their mothers are online trying out the new stuff doesn't help. I haven't had any issues so far, though, in the other major cities where there's tons more people on than usual ...

A newer patch just came to help with the FPS and other minor issues. More RAM is always nice, but more video card power is always better. Unfortunately, you don't have a mac pro, because you can't upgrade the video card on any other model.

Lowering the game resolution a couple of settings and disabling the sunshafts and liquid effects will drastically improve your performance!

I believe warcraft is a online game <-- so really matters on your (ISP).

Monitors - Apple -vs- PC , is really a matter of perception. Cost wise I would go with even a Dell monitor. Keep in mind that the Apple Retina Display does kick arse, but that is for the iPhone. To date.

Look into a cheap Dell monitor that works.
