Well, if you're like me and have no use whatsoever for Ping in iTunes, there's no way (so far) to get rid of the Ping item in the sidebar without disabling the iTunes store altogether.
But you can at least get rid of the annoying Ping dropdown next to the name of the currently playing song, using the following Terminal command:

But as far as Ping goes, I think this was one of those things that doesn't sound too well thought out.
Ping was supposed to be your (FaceBook) for music, so if your into tracking your friends FaceBook style and love music then Ping is the answer for you.
The problem is that FaceBook gave Ping the stiff arm and would not allow Ping to access their servers - this sorta killed Ping but that was at its launch not sure if FaceBook has now allowed Ping onto their servers?

Right Trey Depends on what you need iTunes for.
For me the only time I go into iTunes and thats kinda rare is when I get the hankering for Shania Twain and that is the only iTunes video I own and this is my fave <-- what a hottie.
You don't even need to go into iTunes for that - you can play 'em in QuickTime. I've got iTunes open all the time, because I'm listening to music pretty much all the time. I've recently got into having random sessions using the shuffle thing. Very weird when some of my audio tracks are spoken word!
