Some pretty intense political arguments here and at MC.

In reply to:

How come I have the strangest feeling several are anti-Bush? Personally I voted for Bush and would do so again.

Never did;never will!

As for Ms. Hughes' decision, I believe she's legit. DC is not too connected with the rest of the country. There is a reality distortion field stronger than Steve Jobs' there.

In reply to:

Powell is a retired General..not an active duty one.

What Hamlet says to Polonius when he comes with the "news" that the players have arrived: "Buzz buzz."

In reply to:

Please..why would he resign??

If you were nominally the chief advisor in a field, and were ignored over and over again until your boss had messed things up badly, and then sent you to fix it, would you be happy.

And I understand that all I've said is perspectival, my perspective. No doubt you have a different perspective. To quote another president, "Bully!"

And that's true too.--Shakespeare, King Lear

"Bully !" Teddy also had a good theory (you know, 'speak softly, etc')
I think everyone expected Powell to be the Big Stick of the administration. Based on his efforts between retirement and his selection as Sec of State, he devoted himself to some very laudible causes. The role he plays in this administration is perfect for an ex general with combat experience.
No doubt he didn't hesitate to look some of those people in the eye and make himself clear about this country's commitment to rooting out terrorism.
