I may be missing the obvious. In fact I hope I am, but can someone please tell me how to install a third party program from a CD onto a Macbook AiR?

The program also is also is on my desktop. I tried Migration Assistant, but it wants to transfer =all= my applications, which of course it can't do. I tried Sharing file/CDs, but the Air has no CD/files option. I tried copying the program on a flash drive, but the Air wants me to insert the disk and doesn't recognize the flash drive. I tried connecting an external drive to the Air but it won't read it.

I suspect I must be overlooking something basic, but it escapes me. I don't mind being called a dumbass, but I =do= want to get the program on my Air.

Copy the installer to the flash drive.

If the installer insists on a disc, you can make a disc image, .dmg, of the install CD using Disk Utility and copy that to a flash drive to be copied to the MBA. Double click the dmg to mount it on the MBA.

Or you can buy an external CD drive that connects via USB.

That does work, but if it's a big install, unless you have an n speed network, it's a lot slower than the flash drive method.

External optical is fastest, flash next, remote disc next.

I like the "make a disc image [.dmg] file" of install CD/DVDs - if for no other reason than it's a nice backup to have in case something happens to the original disc.
