I could do without mine, but in Japan it has come to the point where you might as well not exist without a cell phone.
Have you ever watched a movie (and maybe one not even all that old?) where a central plot complication could be easily solved if one or both characters had a cell phone? A while back, I watched a Japanese older movie about a guy going all over town trying to find his brother to tell him the yakuza were after him and that he needed to get the hell out of Dodge, and never succeeding in finding him before his brother was killed. All I could think of was, man if only his brother had had a cell phone.

I don't see cell phones as high tech, necessarily. I can find a restaurant without the use of a phone. I've thought about getting one for emergencies, however. But, even prepaid, the marketing still sucks. I'll sell you some pin registration stuff if you'd like the craftsmanship challenge.
