...are a total waste of time. 10 pages in, and the app is trying (I'm guessing) to cache the previous pages - we're down to 3Mb of free ram, and we crash back to the springboard. So I can't read the books I've paid for until I pay for a newer phone, since there's no way to read them on my mac, as far as I'm aware.

Nah, it's the pathetic lack of ram that does it. Which, however, I have resolved by using a VM hack (since I am jailbroken) so now I have 80Mb free ram instead of 40 when I reboot. It may slightly reduce the lifetime of the memory in my phone - or it may not. Depends who you read. Meanwhile, I get to read my iBooks.

iBooks BTW :~) (it's what the app's called, innit?)

Maybe if it weren't jail broken it could handle the iBook app without jumping through hoops is my point.

Didn't know that was the name of the app, thought you were referring to the type of files, not an app. smile

Yeah, I thought that's what you meant (on both counts!) - I was just fooling with you... I think it's just one of those iPhone apps that isn't really designed to support 'legacy hardware'. I've got it to work by using more ram as VM, but that has its own problems, so I've set it up so I can turn the VM on and off if I need to.

Of course, this is all part of my semi-unconscious ploy to talk myself gradually around to the need to get a newer iPhone, sigh. It's like playing Space Invader, dammit - all I'm doing is putting off the moment of my death (self-respect-wise, that is...)
