Well, for example, if you have a 3G you don't get multitasking unless you're jailbroken . Plus a load of other neat stuff like lock screen calendar info etc. etc... yes, iOS4 has things the previous Os didn't, but it still doesn't do a load of things that JB apps will let it do.

There is a problem with the modmyi.com repo servers at the moment, where a lot of the latest app updates (that are iOS4-friendly) are based, but they're 'working on it'.

Only way I'd even consider jailbreaking an iPhone would be after my 2 year contract was up. Only thing I remotely think would be useful would be WiFi tethering …and I doubt I'd use it enough to matter anyway.
If you want a hackable unit …android is the answer.

PS. If I'm not mistaken, they don't put multitasking on the 3g because it only has 128MB of memory. Not some artificial limitation to try and get more sales.
Multitasking on a jailbroken 3G works just fine, actually, within the limitations of the amount of available ram - I've been using it for months (as Kirikae). Sure, you can only run 3-4 apps at the same time, but it's very handy if you're copying and pasting between a website and an email or whatever.
The only reason Apple have barred their own version of it in iOS4 on a 3G is that it deosn't work as predictably as it would when there's masses of ram to play with (i.e. apps get dropped off the list when another one wants more ram), not because it doesn't work.
And now there's an app for the iPhone that releases more virtual ram from the system, so instead of 42Mb max on a 3G, you get 80, which is enough to run the multitasking in.
If you want a hackable iPhone - you've got one. If you don't, so don't hack it. I don't see why this thread should turn into a bunfight over whether it's worth doing or not. Obviously, if jailbreaking provides functionality you want and can't otherwise get, it's worth it - if not, not. EOS.

An update: the current version of redsn0w automatically enables multitasking even on a 3G when you jailbreak the phone. I'm just waiting to up my ram to make this work better.
(All it does is switch on multitasking in a .plist file, which is all Apple did to disable it on 3G phones ).

Note: the iPhoneVM app that releases more virtual memory for a 3G is a very bad idea, it turns out - greatly reduces the life of the flash memory.
Meanwhile, I'm loving LockInfo, which provides something I've wanted for ages - a pop-up calendar info anywhere in the system (on my 3G, it's a slow process calling up the Calendar app to see what's on my todo list):
