I would add to that list Hindenburg, Titanic, Chernobyl, and Three Mile Island to name a few. I might also add we're now working on messing with gene manipulation. How long before we face something like the Ebola virus only man made.
This oil leak is not President Obamaís fault. Stopping the spill is BPís responsibility; it both caused it and it has the best access to the best technology to plug it. Of course, as the nationís C.E.O., Mr. Obama has to oversee the cleanup, and he has been on top of that. His most important job, though, is one he has yet to take on: shaping the long-term public reaction to the spill so that we can use it to generate the political will to break our addiction to oil.
If this incredible mess isn't used as a lever to move away from oil, then it's a complete and total loss, no silver lining.
