This is apparently a common problem, at least among the 733/867/2x800 SuperDrive-equipped Macs.

When I rip an audio CD, almost always there is a lot of noise during one of the first few minutes of a rip (generally 3-6 minutes into the rip). Apparently this is a problem with the Pioneer 03 recorder and a firmware patch is available for Windows that corrects this, but not for Mac. It's all over Apple's support forums...

Anyone experienced this as well? I can't rip audio with my tower because of this (I use my PBG4 instead). I'd have thought Apple would have addressed this by now...

Is THAT where that noise came from? I was wondering ...

Like you, I rip most of my stuff on my PB, but occasionally I'll rip a song or two on my tower ... now I'll be able to tell which ones by the noise =P

Thanks for the heads-up!

(and yeah, let's hope Apple gets on the ball with that, too!)

=)

***matt

Thanks for the info, I also have this problem with my 867 and couldn't figure out what would be causing that.

Ryan
Edited by morserj on 04/22/02 04:26 PM (server time).

Well this isn't very encouraging, is it... It's already bad enough that the SuperDrive is slow at reading audio CDs (under OS 9, with SoundJam, I can rip a CD from my FireWire CD-RW at 12-14x, versus just 6-8x with the SuperDrive).
