Now that I downgraded all of my camera stuff and I really won't be doing anything other than light photo/video editing...and I mean LIGHT. iMovie would be the max, and probably iPhoto.

I'm thinking of selling off my iMac and getting a laptop. Tired of having to sit at my desk. Question is, I'm not sure which one I should get.

Actually, I probably should get a refurb Refurbished MacBook 2.26GHz Intel Core 2 Duo for $849.

But I like the idea of the MacBook Air and the thinness of it. Apple has a refurb MacBook Air with 128GB SSD for $1349

Tempting. But Powermax has the 64GB SSD drive for $1049.

So, if I went this route, would it be worth it to get the SSD drive or should I just get one with the regular drive in it?

Either way, I plan on getting an external drive too, so space wouldn't be a dealbreaker.

In fact, if I didn't have this camera, I would have just gone for an iPad. (It also takes video, so that's why no straight iPad, plus I would need a computer anyway to sync it)

I do like the MacAir , but it is limited - I would hedge on the MacBook if anything

Personally;

I would keep the iMac , because believe me that Laptops get really Old really fast - Use the iMac as your Main Frame computer and use the laptop as travel from room to room and outside travels .

I had just a powerbook way back when and I don't mind them.

I'm not getting one in addition to my iMac. It would definately replace it.

If you can live with one port for everything get the MacBook Air. If you have the external it will be using that port, so you'll need a USB hub.

I've got a feeling a 64G HD would get small quick, 128 would be a better option.

Either way, if you're going to make a laptop your only computer, I'd definitely stay away from the MacBook Air. It's just WAY too, well, lame.

If your needs are that easy, go with a MacBook.

You might appreciate the screen real estate of a 15" MBP.

Did you ever consider buying the new pro models with the i5 and i7 processors which have switchable preferences.Just a thought. J

sure, but they are expensive and I don't need them. My goal would be to sell my iMac and use that money to get a laptop without spending more money.
