You can usually go through and beat the games in 40-60 hours …but a lot of people get sucked in and try and do all the side quests which adds another 20+ hours.
I don't usually go that deep into it anymore (although I might with FFXIII because there are trophies and there isn't nearly as much secondary content to start with)
The last one I really got into deep was FFVII …oh, and Final Fantasy Tactics (way different than the other titles in the series …almost like a mix between chess and a board game) If you like turn based strategy, it's about the best game I've ever played. Both Tactics and FFVII are available in the PSN store as classic titles for $9.99
FWIW, I just finished Red Dead Redemption, it's fantastic!
Can't decide if I want to hang onto it for some download content or not. One of the better games I've played recently, and one of the better games I've ever played.
Word of warning, don't let your kids play it. Overall it's not too bad (i.e. you can't pick up the hookers like you can in GTA), but there is a graphic sex scene.

Finally got mine yesterday. I'm actually kinda glad the PSN is down right now. It has forced me to play the game on the PS3 instead of Steam, and it's allowing me to chew through the single player stuff without distraction.
Dual sticks sure doesn't compare to a mouse and keyboard, but I'm getting fairly used to it.
