Sad to say but it's almost certainly the end of Now Software. Though I can't say with certain what John has in mind, there's no evidence that he's doing anything but winding up business and attempting to deal with creditors. It's highly unlikely that Now will emerge again, and unless someone were to be interested in buying the code from Now and restarting development, something I rather doubt will happen, Now X is almost certainly dead. So you should indeed be looking to migrate to some other address book and calendar solution.
