Data was scrambled in my contact database. First names were associated with the wrong last names, but eerily so. Susan Boyle was replaced by Sung Boyer. FORTY first names were replaced by Sung in the corrupt data, which in the correct database was never a first name and only occurred once as a last name.
Errors in printing and whatnot are one thing, but errors where the data gets scrambled are another.
Has anyone had this issue? and how do I protect myself against it?

Is the data in a local file, or shared through a contact server? In either case, is there a backup of the file or database that pre-dates the error? You may be able to restore from the older file, or use it to establish a new server.

Hi Dan. It is a server database, serving three client laptop computers. And yes, I was able to restore to an unscrambled version, so I am ok for now. However, this has now happened to me three times, and I cannot figure out why. If I do not catch it within the 5 or so hours of five hourly updates, then I am screwed, it seems.
It also seems like a HUGE issue that must be caused by something. Am I doing something? Do I have a hidden corruption lurking in my computer? Is it a known problem?

There most likely problem area would be a local data file. I would suggest all users optimize their local files at least weekly. Optimizing a local contact file is done as follows:
Optimize the Now Contact file by going under File to Close with the Option key held down on your keyboard. This optimizes a file and is a preventative task. It's the least aggressive way of cleaning up your data. All your attachments, notes and links will still be there.

WE had the same problem and since using the option key with quit we have not had that problem again. Touch wood! It means you can't shut down by just using command-Q as you need to use the mouse to quit as you hold down the Option key but so be it!
