I wanted to point out a very weird bug with login items that we have been having for many months now (10.4.x), and we believe that we have pinpointed it to being linked to QuickDay & QuickContact.
First, it appears that if you remove QuickContact from the menu bar by command-dragging it out of the menubar, Now Contact still has a checkbox in its preferences to display QuickContact in the menubar (even though it's really no longer showing in the menubar). This may or may not be just a cosmetic bug, but I thought I should mention it, since I'm not sure whether it has anything to do with the following bug:
When QuickDay & QuickContact are installed, one or both of them seem to be affecting the login items that are listed in the "Accounts" system preference (underneath the "Login Items" tab). Login items that are added to that list will sporadically mysteriously DISAPPEAR after a restart of the computer, and have to manually be re-added in again after a restart. This happens with some, but not all, of the login items. This is not 100% consistent, but happens fairly regularly. When QuickDay & QuickContact are disabled, the login items do not disappear. We tested this on a clean install of 10.4.10.
For what little it's worth, I ran NUDC on Mac OS X 10.4.10 since .10 was released (and on all earlier versions of 10.4 back to the original release) and never experienced this problem. That doesn't mean that QC/QD wasn't involved somehow, but it's not an across-the-board problem, at least. Perhaps it's an interaction with three things: 10.4.10, QC/QD and some other software? John can say for sure, but it might be useful to send Now a System Profiler output so that they can see what all is running on your system(s) and make a guess as to what else, if anything, might be involved. It's also possible that the problem stems from Menu Extra Enabler rather than QC/QD directly. You don't say what systems and NUDC versions your running, but if MEE isn't at 1.0.3, you might try installing that version from Unsanity and see if that makes any difference.
Regards.

Thanks, you guys, for your ideas. I am running NUDC 5.3.1 on Mac OS X 10.4.10, and I just checked my version of Menu Extra Enabler and it is at 1.0.3. Maybe it is a 3-way conflict with something else, as you said. I would love to send Now a System Profiler report... where should I send this info?
Just got done meeting with my developer on that. The QC and QD menus are both launched by the SystemUIServer (that's the program that controls the menu extras). What we do is tell SystemUIServer what to launch and they take care of it from there. There is also a daemon process we launch that controls the reminders. All that means is that this is a rather complex system. Getting a system profile would be helpful. Send it to mailto:leopard@nowsoftware.com. (I know this bug is on Tiger, but that's the address we're using for our next rev of NUDC.)
