Hey peeps, it's Droog (droogie).. you know, the one who used to be a near-permanent MacCentral fixture? Long time no see!
I hope all are well, and life is giving everyone exactly what they expect and wish of it.
I've been looking around everywhere for something, can't find it, so I thought maybe some of the ol' buds at MacCentr, uh, I mean MacTech may have a solution, or know where I can find one.
I need a copy of OS 10.4 (Tiger), desperately! I found a copy on some pirate site, but I want absolutely nothing to do with that. I also found a copy from Apple themselves. I don't want that either... seems they want to ream me for $189.99 for a standalone single copy of Tiger! Can you flippin' believe that? I asked the guy at Apple if he was joking... I seriously thought he was. Uh, he wasn't!
Does anyone here know where I can get a copy of Tiger for a reasonable price? I have a copy, but it's a dedicated iMac copy -- cannot be used on another machine. My mom and dad need Tiger (at least) to be able to transfer files back and forth from their iPod to their last-gen CRT iMac. They don't want to buy a new computer yet... so I'm stuck trying to get a copy of Tiger for them (It's the oldest version of the Mac OS that will accept the version of iTunes they need... and still run properly on their machine).
Anyway, if someone could help I would really appreciate it. I will pay for it, but not what Apple wants... that's robbery.
Again, I hope all of you old forum chums are doing well. I've been extremely busy, with little or no time whatsoever for doing much of anything besides various forms of work the last few years. I miss posting, but, duty calls... first things first, I suppose.
I'll check back... maybe some of you are still around and can say hi, "Tiger solution" or not!
Like we don't know who Droog is, there's only one.
To make things harder for you, if that iMac doesn't have a DVD player you'll have to look for the Tiger CD installer, it comes on 4 CD's rather than one DVD, that's even harder to find.

You could make a disc image of a retail Tiger DVD, then transfer it to the iMac via a Firewire cable, a large capacity USB key drive, or ethernet cable. Then mount it on your desktop and install - if the iMac doesn't have a DVD drive.
How to get a Tiger install DVD or CDs is the question. I suspect if you asked around, you could find someone willing to share the DVD.

You can't boot from a mounted disc image though, and you have to boot from the disc to do the installation.
He could target disk mode the iMac, and then mount the iMac hard drive on another machine that is DVD capable to install from the DVD.

It's nice to be remembered! However, the world is probably most fortunate there's only one of me... it surely doesn't need another one!
Yeah, lucky for me the machine has a DVD player.
Thanks for the reply, Reboot. Good hearing from you! I wasn't sure how many of you long-timers would still be hangin' around. I'll try and stop in more than I have (although, that could be considered be a curse! ). I definitely miss the forum... when I'm not so busy I can actually think about something other than work.
No kidding. Nice to see you're still here too, carp! Thanks for the reply.
Stick around this time and no bloody toe photos or was that the other guy
Uhh... Unless I was dreaming and took an extended leave of mental absence at some point, I never posted any bloody toe photos... or bloomin' toe photos either! Seriously, I don't remember ever even having a bloody toe. So it must have been that "other guy".
Hey, wait a minute! Was someone named Droogie posting such photos here? If so, it was a complete and total impostor! How dare some scoundrel try and pass himself off as me! Off with his head!
Hey, Bozzz! I had to pop in sooner or later. Just wish it could have been before I needed something. Popping in only when one needs something generally doesn't count. Yet, one thing this forum never was, and that's stuffy! (Well, maybe one or two of the long- time members... but never us, huh?) j/k So I guess me popping in when I need something isn't so bad after all. Uh, is it?
I have a retail Tiger install DVD around here somewhere. Let me know if you can use it (pending that I can find it).
Well, ok then! Consider this one o' those "let you know" kinda' deals... cause I just let you know!
Seriously, I appreciate the offer, and will definitely take you up on it. Let me know if you can find it. If not, seriously, don't worry about it or stress yourself over it... I will figure something out. Even if you can't find it, the offer alone means everything.
Great to see you're still here too, MB. I don't think I remember you being in Pinellas County. Then again, maybe I'm just not remembering correctly. I used to live in Hillborough and Pinellas. Man I miss that area. That is absolutely one of the most beautiful places I've ever lived, and seen. And I've been and lived in a lot of places in my life.
I don't think there's an area there I don't care for... the whole entire TBay area has something incredible and charming going for it. Uhhgg... don't get me started on the beaches south of you, as if the beaches between Pass-a-Grille and Clearwater/Dunedin aren't beautiful enough. Between Sarasota (Longboat Key) and past Bradenton beaches (Holmes Beach) are probably some of the most incredible beaches in the world.
Your avatar/sig. made me miss that area again. I think the word "homesick" is appropriate... even though that area is no longer my home.
Anyway, thanks for the offer... I appreciate it greatly. Let me know where we go from here... whatever the outcome.
