Just saw a report that over 50,000 were sold in the first hour and there was a non-scientific estimate of 20,000 per hour. Pretty darned good for a "flop."

The 50,000 in the first hour was from Cavuto's Business Report on FOX. The 20,000 per hour was from MacNN. I'm sure Apple will provide numbers soon.

Weird news I grabbed on Mercury news a few days ago: Something like half the orders are business and corporate. Apparently they're scooping these up. One rationale is that they're their own category and so don't have the fight the iPhone had against established platforms like RIM, so apparently they're scooping these up to hand out as they believe them invaluable/useful/whatever. So, that might not be such a great metric for guaging usefulness/efficacy/whatever, since we're talkin marginally competent/useful/necessary/whatever corporations . If the government starts thinking these are the greatest thing since sliced bread, then iPads are really suspect .

People still aren't going to pay for e-book subscriptions of newspapers, though, or whatever delusion fancies newspapers have - Those guys are still gonna have to burn the boats and get with the program .

Doctors or like bankers who read tons of images or documents and give them a larger screen like on the iPad <-- you betcha they want it and , even better their custom written software works on the iPad too .
