I'd hazard that there's about as much guesswork involved in asserting increased rates of stress. suicide, etc. are due to societal factors as there is in, say, attributing them to simply being homosexual ...
I imagine there's a mixture of contributing factors including residual denunciation by sections of society. I wasn't making any statement about causes because my point was that young children can't be taken to endorse particular social values just because they're more interested in their own immediate priorities. It's pretty desperate, actually, and for anyone to claim support for the idea of gay marriage in a child's reaction of "Hugh? What?"
