The ads you have on the right side, I'm not sure if they are supposed to do this or not, but here's what happens when I click on them, using Chrome in Windows: Location is right above iPhone Showcase, there are 6 small square ads.
Top left ad: opens up in same window Top Right ad: opens up in new window Middle left: new window Middle Right: same window Bottom left & Right: new window
So when it opens up in same window, you have to use your back button (or your bookmark) to go back to the MacTech/MacNews sites.
And, the same goes for the "Today's Deal" ad/link. It opens up in the same window.

Not just here , sorta all over the web .
I prefer open in new window which I have Safari set for - Sometimes I get that open in same window , which I think its in a new window then I close it - ooops now I have to start all over again
Ok, this is weird. Now it's not the same and it's changing each time I go back.
This is in Safari on my mac. One time top right will open in same window, then new window. I don't know why it's doing that.
The ads shuffle around every time you go to the page. The ads open in a new window, or not, according to the ad, it's not the position of the ad it seems.
I can right click and do the same thing. But I figured that if someone new came to the front door, the last thing you would want is to be whisked away to another site.
