. What does LOL stand for? I can never figure it out. It either means "laughing out loud" or "lots of luck." The two are very different. In one case you are laughing at a person's post, in the other you are being skeptical. Very different.
Okay, so it's extremely likely that it means laughing out loud. If so, how many people mistakenly use it to mean "lots of luck?"

I always took it to say that was so funny it made me laugh out loud. When I read something funny and I'm by myself it is usually amusing but silent & only in my head. Once in a while something is so funny I chortle out loud even though alone. Since a lot of reading stuff online is an individual activity. I thought LOL meant really funny. Is that confusing LOL?
