Yep, the drug problem in the US is so bad I don't see any way around it.
As you say, we are supplying them with lots and lots of guns. They are hiring US citizens as hit men. So many people commit stupid and senseless crimes because they are on drugs. It's beyond belief bad.
I had a construction worker take a few hundred dollars and my debit card from my house. Right after he left, I knew what he had done. They caught him right away. He is in jail and he lost his job. All for a few hundred dollars. Why? He needed the money right now for drugs. .

They're awful as far as govt. corruption, drug violence (but we share the blame), and human rights issues, environmental issues, work place safety, etc.

Only what you already know... that zealots who argue for lopsided parenting purely to pursue an agenda do a disservice to children by putting them at a potential disadvantage.
