The other post 'my first dumb question' was getting too big and diverse.
I just found my 'round tuit' and did the PRAM reset. I'm attempting to re-install 10.2 (for the 4th time). Gonna buy a new battery on the way home from church this afternoon, and see if that will make any difference.
edit: And as usual, when it hit 'Time remaining: 9 minutes' it went off into LaLa land....looks like the next move will be replace the battery.
I hear something going on with the computer. Sounds like CD activity, so maybe the problem has been with the monitor all along. Gonna bring another from the garage later.

Well, at 'Time remaining: 10 minutes' the monitor went to sleep again. I can hear things going on in the computer (CD and HD access) but nothing shows up on screen. In fact, there is a tremendous amount of activity going on.
Whoa, it just restarted after a 15 minute black-out-screen came on, WOW!! There is a LOT going on. Just asked for Disk 2. So, it must be FINALLY working. Praise the Lord!!

If you move the mouse every few minutes it won't sleep the monitor, hitting the space bar should bring the monitor back to life.
If the monitor won't wake up let the machine run until you no longer hear the CD or HD cranking, then hit the Return key, that would be the default to Restart. Not sure how long an install should take, it's been about 6 years since installing 10.2.
If you want to check the HD to see if it's good, when booted from the install CD there is an option in Disk Utility when you Erase for Security Options to Zero Data. It will write 0's to every spot on the HD, if there is a bad sector or area the Erase will probably fail.
Yeppers, I have OS 10.2 installed. Only problem now is that I have a 640x400 monitor and i can't see the entire screen (goes) below the monitor viewing area.
Well, first things first, AT LEAST I HAVE 10.2 instead of 8.6.

Glad it's going. It probably was the battery, or a bad RAM chip if you swapped the RAM. BTW any of that RAM should work. To see if it's all being seen go to About This Mac, it will tell how much memory.
Can you see the Dock at the bottom? There is an option in the Apple Menu for position.
System Preferences under the Apple Menu is like the Control Panels in 8.6. See if you can adjust the monitor in the Displays preferences.
now, the stuff that's on the iMac...can i transfer it over to the G3 and still make it work. On a PC, apps are splattered ALL OVER THE MAP, and it's not just a possibility of copying a folder over and making it work.

It will work for *some* apps, but others need to be installed, not just copied. In any case, after transferring over, do a "Repair Permissions" action, which is found in "Disk Utility".

Most apps will copy over fine but some that are more intense will require reinstalling from the disk.. like Photoshop and other Adobe apps. Office usually transfers over fine and so do most Apple apps. Most games and smaller, 3rd party apps transfer well too.
