Try another HD. If the boot blocks of the HD are damaged it can cause all sorts of weird things when you try to boot it up. If I remember right the HD is the only device on the cable, make sure the jumpers are set to master.
Only problem with that is that I cannot get into the 'innards' of the machine-screw still holding it together.
Still have the Apple screen w/spinning know, so I'm no better off.

Sorry, I thought that was the G3 we were talking about, read it wrong.
So neither machine is running now?
On the iMac, do you have the 10.2 CD in it? Also you can't even zap the PRAM at startup? option-command-p-r keys.
If the CD is in, when you start it up push the button on the CD tray to try and eject the CD.
Does the CD have any scratches or smudges on it.
If the CD is in, get it out, then start up holding Command-S (Command key is next to the spacebar, Apple key maybe) until you see the spinning thing. It should bring you to a DOS looking screen, at the command prompt type in fsck -fy, (space between fsck and -fy) then hit return, that will check the HD. If it finds errors, run it again and again till it doesn't find any more. fsck = file system consistency check BTW.
When it's done type reboot and hit return to get it to reboot, hopefully.

No, the minitower G3 is doing fine.

The little iMac (it's a G3 also) is being kinda stupid. I loaded 10.2 on it, but when I rebooted, it went into never-never land. All I get is the Apple screen with the spinning what-ever.

I've unplugged it and replaced the CD a time or two, and have tried the PRAM zap at startup.

Nope, it's a fairly new one, really good shape.

Already did that. Nothing happens. I know the keyboard works, because I can turn the machine on with it.

Unfortunately, the ONLY thing I get when I boot, reboot, re-reboot (etc) is the little spinning what-ever. And I still cannot get into it. Still don't have an easy-out yet.

FLASH!!! After MANY tries, I FINALLY got it to reboot to the CD. I'm gonna try to reinstall 10.2 and see if it was just something I tried to configure wrong that caused the problem. Will let ya know.

I understand about long-distance troubleshooting. I used to be the head of the technical department of a software company, and I had to diagnose problem over the phone from TOTAL ID 10ts. Fun and games.
I'm doing a clean erase and install
