For the pricepoint, I'd still rather get an iLiad ebook reader. For everything else, I carry my laptop with me about everywhere, because I need to do actual work on that device. Having an iPad in addition to my MacBook Pro seems pointless.

Right , iSight and a speaker phone at least .
The first thing I thought is for work . I constantly have conference calls to the architects and engineers to solve problems . If the iPad was able I could take it out in the field take photos and have the conference call at the same time <-- Now that would be something .
price is nice, but there's just something about an actual OS where you can install Word, Dreamweaver, etc. that makes a giant Touch seem lacking. if i was looking for something for sitting on the couch and browsing online then this might be appealing to me. actually, i'd love to have one anyway . . . i just don't like the closed structure of the OS. i was really hoping for OS X.

Nothing gave me that idea. Just that no USB, no FW, NO multitasking...makes it rather limited even for consumer use, regardless of the Wi-Fi capability. One DJ friend of mine already stated in Facebook, that even with USB and/or FW capability, it might make for a great controller for DJ/VJ work, but as it is, it is like a giant iPod and that's it.
I don't have a macbook either. But because (like FSM just said) it's closed, you can't store stuff like Photos to work on them like iPhoto or whatever and work on them.
Perhaps I might get one for my wife eventually to replace her iPod Touch, which has been acting up lately.
oh yeah, that's another thing I forgot. You can't connect anything external to it, so you are limited to the space. Sure, you can sync up to iTunes...but for me what would have been nice would have the ability to connect my Compact Flash Card Reader to it and have a slideshow of pictures that I just took. (like you can do with a laptop)
Even if Kindle went with a color screen -- this iPad makes my Kindle obsolete.
Well, not for me. I enjoy reading books on the Kindle. Doesn't matter if they're black and white. I have my iPhone to do most of the stuff you COULD do on an iPad, but really, I do not use it for a lot of other stuff than a telephone.
For me the iPhone is handy to look at some weather. Google Earth is ample enough for me to find a street or business when I am driving.
Voice Memo is handy for a quick note to remind me of something to do later.
Camera for quickie pictures.
My Kindle does not require a $14.99 or $29.99 charge to read the books I download. I don't need more storage memory for tons of books, as I archive them on Amazon/Kindle [wherever]
Games? Na! I don't even play Solitaire on my iPhone.
So, unlike with each new introduction of an updated iMac, I am not suffering any Apple Envy! At this time, the iPad does not sound like I need one. [However, {if I live long enough} who is to tell what the future iPads may acquire and entice me.]
