Like all IT services, these folks want command and control, and letting me have the DVD would give me some of that command and control, the good lord forbid! That's why. I think I posted about the account that IT made for me on the new laptop, which has "managed" administrator limitations. Silly IT never considered that from that account I could make an unmanaged administrator account. That's what I'm using now, of course.
That 10 MB file is not the same as the one downloadable at Apple Support, is it?

It's off of the Snow Leopard DVD, it's the application installer only. The one at Apple is 72M, it's the full installer, extensions, frameworks, etc, not just the app installer, it won't install on your machine.
