Hummm that is interesting
So maybe it is not a port thing after all since the external HD shows the same . Maybe it is a problem with the card reader itself ? and that it works on the other Mac might be just a fluke
It works on all the iMacs at the local community college (I know, I tried) and on my other one, but it doesn't work on this one. I don't think it's a fluke.
Here's my advice. Don't fix it. You have a legitimate reason to take it in before your warranty expires and they will likely look it over really well and maybe find other things that need fixing. I'm sure this won't happen... but I took mine in with about 2 months left and got a brand new Mac Pro. Still not entirely sure why....
Don't laugh.. I went in to see about getting my mic port fixed. No matter what headset i tried i couldn't get it to work. In addition, the optical port was glowing red.
Well... they found something else wrong and replaced it. I got the new one and the optical port was glowing red still. Supposed to do that! I thought it was red only when active.
Last night I found out why the mic won't work. Turns out it is a line level in port and not your typical mic port. See here...
Long story short.. none of the things I thought were broken were broken at all.
