The PC NetBooks have a 20%+ higher failure rate than PC Notebooks which are already higher than Desktops. PC World says it's because of their cheap price... the builder must use cheap components to make any profit and that's a slim one as it is...
so cheap Netbook = cheap parts = high failure rate.
Apple if they charge $800 (vs $400) may be a better deal if it's reliable and has a low failure rate. The $400 PC netbook might look attractive, but if it fails you have a $400 PAPER weight !!
The remote is now $20. Out of all the iMacs and portables I've been around I don't know of anyone that uses theirs. It a cool feature but not for everybody by any means, so to save a few $$$ they don't include them anymore.
