Thanks Six and Steve! I'll thank Max in advance too. He laid on me pretty hard once for not patting space exploration on the back some time back. What I'd like to see though is direct goodies showing up in the news. That way, we know there are good things coming from space exploration.

You don't really need the news. The "goodies" surround you. The chips and circuits and longer lasting batteries in your computer, the lighter and stronger alloys in your car, fuel cells... and as yoyo said, TANG! Can you imagine life without TANG? These are all things (and there are so many more) that have been developed and improved as a direct result of space exploration.

Yes, Tang might be the best to come from space exploration. Or was it Ovaltine? Remember that? Speaking of lighter and stronger car parts, I do hope we can get the electric car things going. Or solar, or both combined. On the green thinking, did you see where the Mac company Other World Computing bought and setup a huge wind turbine to power their company? Really cool!

The microcircuits in your computer come directly from the engineering that went into miniaturizing computers to fit them into space capsules, iBM. I'd bet you that there are very few things that you use on a daily basis that haven't been affected by applications derived from the space program.

Well, Ovaltine has been around since long before space exploration began. The brand was one of the largest and earliest sponsors of the Theater of the Mind -- aka radio -- sponsoring weekly series like Lil' Orphan Annie and others in the '30s. But I suppose since they probably sponsored Orson Welle's War of the Worlds broadcast, there would have been some tenuous connection to outer space.
and as yoyo said, TANG! Can you imagine life without TANG?
Wahhhh. Doesn't anybody read my friggin' posts? I'm taking my ball and bat going home!!!!! You're all freakin' .
Well, over to my brother's actually for a Life on Mars-athon. Pretty fitting I'd say. Still haven't watched the last two, we're going to start over and cover them all.

In response to Yoyo, wasn't IBM the company that said long ago that nobody would ever want a computer in their home? Man, were they right.
