Re: MacWorld magazine
I am so sick & tired of getting renewal notices from them every few weeks when my subscription does not end till 12/10!
I finally called their subscription department & gave them a piece of my mind. Ended by telling them, if I get one more, I'm canceling my subscription.
"Nick" the poor fella on the other end of my tirade calmly told me that somehow, I was on their mass mailing list. WTF!!!! After apologizing, he removed me from their mass mailing (snail mail) list & gave me an extra 6 months subscription for my inconvenience.
Me: "6 months?" Nick: "Did I say 6? How does an extra year sound?" Me: "Thanks" Nick: After much tapping on the computer - "You're now off the mass mailing list & your subscription will end 2011. You will get your renewal notice near the end of your expiration date." Me: "Thank you very much. Have a nice holiday."
I dumped them years ago because rather than let me know my subscription was about up, they sent me a bill for the next two years. Way too presumptuous for me, so I called. Turns out that was their policy. I told 'em to stuff it.
They sent me a past due notice a month later. I called again and told 'em to sue me.
Anybody remember MacAddict? It was a pretty slick alternative back then, and after my MW encounter, I subscribed to MA just to be petty. Good thing I actually enjoyed the zine while it lasted. Oh, and it always came with a CD loaded with mostly crappy free stuff, but WoW! It was free!

MacAddict is still around, but its name changed to MacLife. Their reasoning was the change to Intel, and how we're not such a rebel niche anymore. (Honestly, it was better when it was MacAddict, and had a bit more attitude).

I kinda miss the old mail box being stuffed full of Publishers Clearing House ads...the stickers were fun for the kids to stick here and there...and I always had the posibility of meeting Ed MacMann with that 1 million dollar check!!
I know, and I don't know if I'm glad about that or not. I mean, I do love knowing that after all the years of being dumped on by PC weenies, that we're finally getting some respect, but still . . .
To be clear, not all PC peeps are weenies. I'm married to a PC guy who still has this little guy in his home office across the hall from me. It still works, too.

I dumped MacWorld as soon as when they went online <-- well back then by the time you got the rag you already read the news via the internet . Sorta pointless in my view to continue a subscription
Just like Mac Addict I subscribed to that too for the CDs that came with it - I then realized I did not need all those so called Utilities -vs- for what I was paying for the rag . Plus seemed to me that the rag was meant for little children or really Geek Heads

Lea, I loved MacAddict. I dumped them after the name change & no more free cds. The change over was just too serious for me. No more "fun" articles. That is when I jumped ship & went over to MacWorld which I am dumping after my current subscription expires. No "fun" articles with them either. The only other mag I subscribe to is TIME.
