What's the best method for choosing a small lcd for a case front install. I'm looking at some car video monitors as they have a 12V and various a/v inputs. This will be for a g4 mdd.

Most small LCDs only support 800x600. If you want to go a cheaper route and if your videocard has S-Video you can use a cheap TFT display like the old Playstation LCD or a LCD from a portable DVD player.
If you want to use a VGA style LCD make sure you have a videocard that has dual VGA or DVI and VGA or you will need a CGA Y cable and the video would be mirrored.
If you do end up using a LCD for automotive use toss on a 3 or 5amp fuse onto the 12volt lead for protection.

I forgot to mention the portable DVD player needs to have a video input. Most people prefer the Audiovox VBP800 portable DVD player but they are hard to come by but if you google around you can find guides that cover different dvd players.
As for the voltage you have two ways to do it. Use a voltage regulator and increase the 5 volt lead to 9 volts or go even cheaper and toss on some resistors. Now just so you know some LCDs with this configuration will make the display real bright or off color but some good old fashion potentiometers can fix that. Just run the 9volt to the lead that controls brightness, contrast, tint and such.
