Hey guys.

I just got a DVI to HDMI cable for my G5 but when I connect it to my TV I can see the menu Bar no matter what resolution I choose, how do I fix this?

I have a Nvidia GeForce 6600 with 256 MB of VRAM

and I'm using a 19inch Sharp HDTV with 1080p support

Do you mean you can not?
If so your problem is the same as mine and can be fixed by adjusting the shape in the tv (but make sure you change it back when you watch tv)

I don't think I can adjust the shape of the tv

when its connected I just get the middle of the screen with about an inch cutoff all around the edges so I can see the menu bar dock etc

For awhile I ignored this problem.

but now I wanna figure whats up

I figured out how to change the resolution but I can seem to find an output that matches the screen.

I have LC19SB25U Sharp HD TV 19 inch and its actually 720P
720P doesn't matter much cause the screen is only 19 inch right?
its only a big deal about 1080P if its a larger screen right?

How do I configure mac os x to feed the HDMI input with a 1366 X 768 resolution so that its perfect for the screen?

90% of HD LCD tvs have the same settings as a computer monitor that let you change the height and width of the picture in the settings menu on the TV.

Or you can create a profile in the System Preferences/Displays/Color

I'm not worried about the color profile ATM

I want t get the resolution to fit the screen perfectly.

when its on overscan I get pretty close but the menu bar is not visible which results in some image cutoff when viewing movies.

I've got my B&W G3 (G4) hooked up to my LCD TV as a streaming media center, probably like y'all do, and I had to go into my TV's setup menu and turn OFF the zoom function that's enabled for "regular" NTSC/cable TV. I've got a Visio 42"/1080p, and the path to the "zoom" function is Menu->Setup->Widescreen->Normal/Zoom1/Zoom2/Panoramic. "Normal" is the setting to use with your computer. Your video card should detect the proper native resolution. I've got an old Radeon 7000 Mac Edition, and it handles the TV just fine.

iBookdude458,

I have been bugged by this - I think settings on the TV are the key. I know the following setup is not the same as yours, but it may be of some use.

For one TV I had access to I found a setting that said: 1:1 pixel. Activating this gave a non-distorted image with all top menu and dock.

I was using a MacBook Pro (DVI to DVI cable), and a new Mac Mini ([mini DVI to DVI adapter] - to - [DVI-HDMI adapter] - to - HDMI cable - to - [HDMI to DVI adapter]. When I connected this via a [DVI to VGA adapter] this setting was greyed out, and I could not get the menus correct.

The TV was a 50" Panasonic Plasma. I am calling on someone with a TV with HDMI tonight - I will try DVI to HDMI, and report back.

V7
