where can I find this rom? I saw a thread on this somewhere but it was for the macpro so it won't work for me. There is a G5 edition of the card sold by ATI but I rather just flash a PC version so I don't have to pay so much.
I didn't mean to mislead you, the ROM I was referring to is for Intel-based Macs and it seems you're getting a PPC Mac??? If that's the case your flashing options are very limited. The best flashing forums went offline before PCI-e cards became the norm. There are lots of AGP ROMS available but I don't know of any reduced PCI-e ROMS for PPC 512 MB cards. You might want to max out your RAM and try your G5 with the GeForce card for a while before trying to upgrade the video card.
I plan to max the RAM this summer when I get a job RAM is pretty cheap for this thing and it can take 16 GB which hopefully will be enough for me
ATI make a G5 Edition of the X1900
which means there has to be a ROM out there that someone pulled off the G5 Edition. the G5 I bought is only 3 years old which means its a 2006 model meaning that it is one of the most power G5s apple has made (the quad core one being the fastest). So its gonna be able to have lots of card options as long as there are ROMs
My mistake, the 6800 I have is an AGP card, but it is a genuine Apple one if anyone else might be interested.
The 2.3 is not watercooled so coolant leaks are not something you need worry about.
just got it today. it is water cooled it has a radiator and pumps in it and the whole shabang.
One more thing.
does anyone know the pinout fo the PSU because I don't have the G5 C19 AC power cable so I'm modding a standard AC power cable to work and I wanna know which pin is hot and which is ground etc.
Um. I'm pretty sure the only water cooled G5s were the Dual 2.5GHz, Dual 2.7GHz (both single core, dual CPU) and the Quad 2.5GHz (dual dual core CPU). The service manuals confirm that I am not going insane. Are you sure you have a dual 2.3GHz and not something quicker? PM me the serial and I'll look it up for you......
thanks but my G5 is based around the PCI express architecture aslo to War http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Power_Mac_G5 proof that the Dual-Core 2.3s were liquid cooled.
also mine is very silent, even when playing Doom 3 maxed out.
