I just looked into the G5 alternative and spotted this:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...=tab%3DWatching

it would make more sense to buy this beast and KVM it with the G4. having the G4 used for full OS 9 booting and the G5 for all my music editing/ gaming needs

QS are great, but that is a ton of dough to dump on it. As for G5s, pick up a Dual-core 2.3. No h2o leakage and the fastest fan cooled version. Otherwise get a dual cpu 2.0, they are dirt cheap and still pretty fast, far faster than a fully rigged QS.

the Dual-Core 2.3 is air cooled?
I thought it was liquid cooled.

Hmmm. I checked around a bit, but I am unsure. Guess a run over to apple.com tech papers...

I have a Dual-core 2.3 G5 I tried looking in side but I'm having trouble removing the "G5" plate and I don't want to for it. From the outside it looks as if it could be liquid or air cooled.

I'm a semi retired academic coot (76+years) who was given a plain vanilla non-operating Silver Fish by a colleague.Got it going. But spare change even for a 512 stick is a major expense.Which is why I am inspired by posts such as yours. Right now I am hollowing out a twenty year old hard drive in order to mount 2 cooling fans for the 7200 rpm drive. In the old country it's called a bidouille. 767 drives sure do run hot!!!
