So I have been very slowly working on getting my iPod into my car in a nice fashion, and I am getting closer. So I am going to post some half-way pics.

First I had to buy the iPod connectors. They are pretty nice!

This is what the inside of it looks like:

and this is what you get to solder to:

To make things easier I just pulled all the pins out, soldered wires to the pins, and only put back the ones I needed. This made in much cleaner and easier. I have the grey wire on there for testing, to make sure it was all going to work.

Then I used a serial cable. It was from an APC UPS and is the perfect size for the plug, it works very well. You can see that I have put a bit of wire wrapped around the serial cable. This is so that if it gets pulled its not going to pull the plug apart.

And finally the finished product, it looks like I paid to much for it at a store, when it fact it cost me about $5 smile

Some notes on this, this is the site I used for the cable pinout. http://pinouts.ru/Devices/ipod_pinout.shtml

This is the site I bought the connector from. They have many choices http://home.swipnet.se/ridax/connector.htm

Thats it for now, I will get to installing it in my car later. I am going to help a friend with his car, so I will get to mine sometime...

Let me know if there is something you want fixed with the photos, but to me they look pretty good.

Overall I'd say you did a great job with the soldering and reconnecting. That piece looks like you would spend $20 on it in Best Buy.

That's exactly hat I'd hoped the connector looked like, solder wells on each pin and all. Well, done.

Wow, I have completely forgotten about this project. I installed it in my car, and never took any pictures or anything... I'll get to that.
