I just got a macbook for $150 in a bit of a sad affair, its scratched and didn't work. but I have it going now. Anyway at this point I have it down to needing a new hard drive and battery, I ordered the hard drive on newegg so that's no problem. The battery is what is strange. It won't charge or run the computer. But the adapter light goes orange when the battery is in the computer. What makes it strange though is that one of the green lights on the battery is stuck on, its always on, whether the laptop is in or out of the battery. Is this covered in the apple battery replace program? or do I just have to buy a battery. And if I do where should I get it? I buy all my apple batteries at newertech who doesn't sell macbook batteries. Even if I do have to buy the battery this is still a steal for a now perfectly working macbook.
I have replaced batteries with that symptom before. Does it register on the menubar that the batter is present? It shouldn't matter anyway really - kick up enough fuss and they will replace it for you.

Will they replace it over the phone too? I live in Maine and there are no apple stores here. I will give it a try when I get home anyway, its worth a try.
So I bought a battery on ebay for $55 and a 80GB hard drive for $40 (all including shipping). Right now I am using it booted from my iBook G4 in target disk mode. I really hate the keyboard though. I have never liked the macbook keyboard, and I am continuing to not like it. Oh well, it was cheap and I can sell it for a good sum, I have some friends begging me to sell it to them...
