I'm thinking about getting an iPod, and I'm thinking about getting it off ebay because I don't feel like giving apple $240. But I also want to run linux on my iPod because I rip all my music into ogg files, and I have acquired a bunch of wma files too. So is there iPod linux for the newest iPods yet? Otherwise I will just get a 5th gen. Oh, and I am not trying to start a discussion on why ogg files are better than mp3 or anything, I am just wondering if I can run linux on the newest iPod to play them. :P
You're better off getting a 5th generation (make sure it's 5.5) and installing Linux on there. I'd suggest reading over all of the necessary steps it takes to get Linux installed via a Mac on an iPod. If you have a PC then it's nearly a piece of cake, otherwise it's a bit of a pain on a good 'ole Mac.
Thanks for the quick response whitlock, I have leopard, XP, and linux hanging around so it should work out. But I hate to use XP for anything besides games, so I will probably do it with the mac
