Im restoring an ibook G3 clamshell also and I want to replace the cd-r with either a combo or super i do have a ibook g4 drive (its either combo or super I know that much) and do you know if I could use any other laptop drives like sony/samsung/philipes ?
The G4 iBook combo drives will work with the Clamshell iBooks. I just installed a Superdrive in my G4, so I had a spare Combo which I tossed in my g/f's 300mhz Clamshell. Works fine. I need to re-install 10.2 so that I can get the DVD player, but it reads the DVDs just fine and burns CDs natively.
