After seeing the Core 2 Duo Sawtooth i got to thinking that perhaps its possible to build a mac clone for a good price. The scary thing is all necessary parts cost just about 1012$. But the only question is will mac OS X not perform as well and do PCs use the new EFI system. here is the part list Mac Clone Part List
May I suggest an OC of a cheaper C2D. Mine is a e6400 running at 3.2ghz with an AC 775 Pro. It would save ya 200 bills. Also, intels price cuts and new processors are coming out next week...so wait and see if something better comes along for ya.
Technically, yes. PC's in a sense do use EFI. The Extensible Firmware Interface was developed by Intel as a successor to the BIOS. However, in order to run and use EFI, you most likely will need an intel chip and board that support EFI. At least, thats what I've been told.

Electricity tastes good. No, seriously.
I plan to build this long in the future i just wanted to hammer out a rough estimate of what it would cost. as for overclocking IDK to do it and i'd probably kill the chip. another thing is will this rig run just as good a reguler desktop mac like an imac or dare i say it a mac pro. I designed this to be in between the imac and mac pro but mostly borderline mac pro.

OC'ing is easy as long as you dont expect too much for what you know. OC to 2.66 is super easy even with the e3600. If you need help there are lots of websites and I would be willing to help out too.
the only question is now will this run the mac Version of Doom 3 at full specs and will it run the Mac version of Gears of War when it comes out and will it run Half life 2 in wine. I think i might actually build this beast if i get the money which you can donate to the Mac Clone Project at http://www.myspace.com/str atocasterman look for the paypal button. All donations are appreciated.

I've been thinking about this long and hard. I saw a ton of write ups for the OSx86 hardware. If you get the motherboard that was pretty much the same as the motherboards Apple used on the test/build systems then you can easily make the old BIOS run a EFI setup. Just need a mac that uses the same chipset and do some kind of a ROM dump and get a EPROM programmer or force a flash to the BIOS on the PC and wallha. Illegal? 50 - 50 yes and no. Illegal that it's not from Apple but same hardware Apple uses. In all you would be subjected to pirating software.
My hardware list for a clone would run me about 300. I already have most of the parts, just need the mobo and CPU.
It's not really illegal as long as you purchased a Mac OS X license, right? The most illegal part would be if you download the hacked OS X from the web.

I believe it is illegal to install OS X on hardware that is not licensed by Apple, though I am not sure where I heard that. Maybe it's in the OS EULA? Who reads those anyway.
Maybe someone can correct me? The above may not be right.

Yeop, also my little idea to force a PC motherboard to use a EFI system would be illegal as well unless you use the same ROM dump from a mac you own and cannot use both systems at once. I remember this fact from the old 68k mac emulation days.

In Florida alone theres tons of screwed up laws.
* Women may be fined for falling asleep under a hair dryer, as can the salon owner. * A special law prohibits unmarried women from parachuting on Sunday or she shall risk arrest, fine, and/or jailing. * If an elephant is left tied to a parking meter, the parking fee has to be paid just as it would for a vehicle. * It is illegal to sing in a public place while attired in a swimsuit. * Men may not be seen publicly in any kind of strapless gown. * Having sexual relations with a porcupine is illegal. * It is illegal to skateboard without a license. * When having sex, only the missionary position is legal.
The major one that doesn't make sense.
"When two trains are about to pass they must stop until the other train passes."
It's really worded like that in the books.
Heres a few in Jacksonviolle Florida.
* It's illegal to eat chicken wings before 10:00am * It's illegal to call the firefighters on Sunday. * It's illegal to have a room mate that is a different sex then you. * It is considered an offense to shower naked.
There is a churchyard between England and Wales, where it is 100% perfectly legal to shoot and/or kill and annoying welshman with a crossbow on a thursday. Or it may have been a longbow. I defy anyone to find a funnier law than that.
