Hi, sorry about this as im sure its probably been posted but i recently got a digital audio g4 powermac and want to take off the panels, i remember from a while back that its a bit fiddly in places, is there a guide or anything someone could link me to? or even post? thank you very much
There is only one way to take off the sides of a Powermac case. First, you have to take off the 4 allen screws per side. That's 8 allen screws altold. Then there are 2 Phillips screws (star) on the inside of the case with the latch. Take them off and now comes the fun part. Be careful with this for you could possibly break the side panels. They are held onto the case with clips in the center. Gently pry them from the case and your side panels should pop off.

monkeybubble: if you PM me your email addressI will send you a .pdf of the service manual for your mac. It shows step by step how to take all of it apart.

AND WATCH OUT.. if you have removed ALL scrws of the mobo AND It doesnt get off.. you have to search after a 6-sided screw on the mobo (nearly the ports (USB..) i think)
...after you have removed this screw..it will get off..
good luck..
and another tip:
you have to push two clips together, ( on the backside of the sidePanel) to remove the side..
the best is... if you will cut those clips...( i also done that..) so you wont have to do it everytime,..
ask, if you have got problems

I never had to remove the mobo from any of my G3's or my sawtooth. If you want to be extra careful, then i guess you can do that. As for myself, i have never had that problem. But if you want to be more safe than sorry, then yes, remove the motherboard.
